Some Tips on Catching Hackers

Spawnpoint has already written up a very good guide on all the different types of hacks and what to look for. I've had a few people ask how I do catch so many so here are a few things that have helped me:

1) I ran into this one tonight and found it pretty funny. If a player joins the server and asks if there are any admins on watch them. Players on the server say no, I switch to spec and he's using wallhacks.

2) Playing aliased. Now Oz already gets after me for not wearing the tag enough so I'm not going to say you should all do this. :P Regulars to servers for the most part know who the admins are. They won't hack when they are on if they have any sense. However when they think they can get away with it is when you catch them. You can even go as far as changing your steam friends name.

3) Not switching to spectator. I haven't really had a problem with not being able to record a demo when I switch to spec, however some players will leave as soon as someone does. A short clip with hard proof is all you need. Get yourself killed early in the round. Start the demo and watch them without ever going spec.

4) If you are an admin don't reveal that fact before gathering the evidence. On several occasions I've seen admins do this when going to record me. They type in admin chat "brb gonna eat pizza" or something along those lines in admin chat to justify them going to spec. Now if I was actually hacking and an admin switches to spec what action do you think I'd take if I cared about continuing to play in that particular server? I'd leave right away.

Just a few things I came up with off the top of my head tonight. I've been playing FPS games for a number of years now so I'm pretty experienced in what to look for. However Spawnpoints guide did provide me with some more detailed info on different types of particular hacks. You can read that here: How to Spot a Hacker I hope some of you found this helpful.  I had originally typed this up as a post for the forums but this may be a better spot for it I dunno. Good luck and happy hunting.
